Important Note

Notes

  • Proper mental and physical preparation is essential for trekking and peak climbing in the Everest region. Trekkers and climbers should be prepared for high altitude, changing weather conditions, and basic mountain facilities.
  • Lukla flights are highly weather-dependent, and delays or cancellations can occasionally occur due to mountain weather conditions.

Alternative Transportation Option

In case of flight cancellation, an alternative overland route is available:

  • Kathmandu to Surke Jeep Drive
  • Approximate distance: 380 km
  • Duration: around 2 days drive
  • Please note that approximately 30% of the road is in rough off-road condition

This option is commonly used during bad weather or peak trekking seasons when flights are disrupted.

Optional Helicopter Upgrade

Kathmandu – Lukla – Kathmandu Helicopter Service

For greater comfort, flexibility, and to avoid possible flight delays, direct helicopter flights between Kathmandu and Lukla are available.

  • Additional cost: USD 600 per person (one way)

Helicopter flights are faster, more comfortable, and operate more reliably during unstable weather conditions compared to regular domestic flights.

Travel Recommendation

We strongly recommend keeping a few extra buffer days in your travel itinerary before international flights, especially during the busy spring and autumn trekking seasons, as weather-related delays in the Everest region are common.

Awesome trek to the Everest Base Camp!

The main guide and assistant were exceptional, going above and beyond to accommodate our needs! They ensured our time was spent efficiently, and I truly appreciated how thoughtfully they planned ahead, even arranging our meals at tea houses in advance. Their attention to detail made the experience seamless and enjoyable.

Renjo La Pass and Gokyo Ri summit - April 2026

We were a group of 10 friends and did Renjo La Pass and Gokyo Ri summit with Higher Path Treks. Karma Sherpa organised our trip, welcomed us at Kathmandu airport, and ensured the whole trip went smoothly. Our lead guide was Jangbu Sherpa and he was accompanied by 2 other assistant guides and a team of porters. The entire trip was very well organised, with good acclimitisation planning, clear briefings, and a good selection of tea houses throughout. We had a few friends fall sick during the trip - not uncommon for such treks - and the Higher Paths team went above and beyond to ensure they were safe and having a good time. They were also very resourceful in providing options to continue the trip on horseback and exit via Helicopter. They are very observant, without being intrusive. Having done Annapurna with another service provider, I can say that Higher Path's dedication to their guests is unparalleled. Karma is also involved in numerous social and philanthropic endeavors in his village in Khumbu, which makes supporting his company even mor e meaningful. Safe to say we've found our go-to service provider for future treks and expeditions in Nepal!
