Ama Dablam Expedition Difficulty

Ama Dablam Expedition climbers need three different permits: 

Accommodation and meal

Throughout the Everest base Camp Trekking route, climbers stay at comfortable local teahouses, with basic facilities, twin sharing rooms and warm dining room. During the climbing period accommodation is arranged in Tents, which our team will manage there. 

During the trek teahouses serve a variety of meals including local and some international. Trekkers can choose meal of their choice at teahouses. Vegetarian meals are healthy, fresh, nutritious and easy to digest. At high camp, our climbing team provides meals designed to supply the energy needed for the demanding summit climb.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival in Kathmandu (1,400 meters / 4,593 feet)

Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, a representative from our team will greet you and transfer you to your hotel. After checking in, take some time to relax and recover from your journey. Depending on your arrival time, you may have the opportunity to explore the local area or simply rest in preparation for the upcoming adventure. The evening is yours to unwind and adjust to the new time zone. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 2 : Kathmandu: Sightseeing and Trip Preparation (1,400 meters / 4,593 feet)

Following breakfast, Sightseeing tour of Kathmandu, immersing yourself in the rich cultural and historical heritage of the valley. Your tour includes visits to renowned landmarks such as Pashupatinath Temple, a sacred Hindu site; Swayambhunath Stupa (Monkey Temple), offering panoramic views of the city; Boudhanath Stupa, one of the largest stupas in Nepal; and Kathmandu Durbar Square, a historic plaza surrounded by ancient palaces and temples. These sites represent the pinnacle of cultural prosperity in Kathmandu. After the tour, return to your hotel to prepare your gear and pack for the journey to Manthali the following day. Day 3 : Afternoon Drive to Manthali (500 meters / 1,640 feet)

In the afternoon, Scenic drive from Kathmandu to Manthali. The drive typically takes about 5-6 hours and provides a glimpse into rural Nepalese life. Manthali is a crucial transit point for flights to Lukla due to limited flight slots from Kathmandu. Upon reaching Manthali, check into your local guesthouse or lodge for the night. This stopover allows you to rest before your early morning flight to Lukla. Overnight stay in Manthali.

Day 4 : Fly to Lukla (2,840 m / 9,318 ft), then Trek to Phakding (2,610 meters / 8,563 feet) – 3-4 hours

Early in the morning, take a thrilling 25-minute flight from Manthali to Lukla. The flight offers spectacular views of the Himalayan ranges and is an exhilarating start to your trek. Lukla's short runway and high altitude make landing an adventure in itself. Upon arrival, begin your trek to Phakding. The trek is relatively short, allowing you to ease into the trekking routine. As you trek, enjoy the lush surroundings and serene environment. Arrive at Phakding, where you’ll stay in a comfortable lodge. Overnight at a lodge in Phakding.

Day 5 : Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440 meters / 11,286 feet) – 6-7 hours

Today's trek takes you from Phakding to Namche Bazaar, the bustling gateway to the Everest region. The trail follows the Dudh Koshi River, passing through Jorsalle and the entrance of Sagarmatha National Park. As you trek, you'll cross suspension bridges and traverse through dense forests and small villages. The final ascent to Namche Bazaar is steep but rewarding, offering your first views of Mount Everest. Arrive in Namche Bazaar, where you'll spend the night at a lodge. Overnight at a lodge in Namche Bazaar.

Day 6 : Acclimatization Day in Namche Bazaar (3,440 meters / 11,286 feet)

Acclimatization is crucial at this altitude. Spend the day in Namche Bazaar to help your body adjust. Take a leisurely stroll around the village and explore its local shops and eateries. For a more active acclimatization, hike up to the Everest View Hotel, which offers breathtaking panoramic views of Mount Everest and surrounding peaks. This hike also helps your body adapt to the altitude. Return to Namche Bazaar in the afternoon and enjoy a relaxing evening. Overnight at a lodge in Namche Bazaar.

Day 7 : Namche Bazaar to Khumjung (3,790 meters / 12,435 feet) – 5-6 hours

Depart Namche Bazaar and trek towards Khumjung, passing through scenic landscapes and picturesque villages. As you trek, you’ll be treated to stunning views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Ama Dablam. After lunch at Khumjung short acclimatization hike to Khunde Ri and back to Khumjung. Overnight at a lodge in Khumjung.

Day 8 : Kumjung to Pangboche (3,980 meters / 13,058 feet) – 5-6 hours

Today's trek continues to Pangboche, a charming village located at the base of the Ama Dablam mountain. The trail offers views of Everest, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and the Kongde range. Pangboche is surrounded by fertile valleys and is a great place to observe the local Sherpa culture and lifestyle. After arriving in Pangboche, settle into your lodge and enjoy the tranquil environment. Overnight at a lodge in Pangboche.

Day 9 : Pangboche to Ama Dablam Base Camp (4,600 meters / 15,092 feet)

Today, make your way to Ama Dablam Base Camp. The trail takes you through the Dudh Koshi River and then ascends to the Base Camp, located on a large open grassy field at the foot of the towering Ama Dablam. The trek is relatively short but provides stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Upon arrival at Base Camp, your team will set up tents and prepare the camp for your stay. Enjoy the awe-inspiring surroundings as you prepare for the climb. Overnight at Ama Dablam Base Camp.

Day 10 : Rest Day at Ama Dablam Base Camp (4,600 meters / 15,092 feet)

Today is rest and acclimatization day at Base Camp with enjoying the spectacular views of Himalayan peaks.

Day 11 : Training at Ama Dablam Base Camp (4,600 meters / 15,092 feet)

Today is dedicated to pre-climb training. Your climbing Sherpa guide will provide essential training on using climbing gear, including ice axes, crampons, harnesses, and ropes. You’ll also receive a detailed briefing on climbing techniques and safety measures. This day is crucial for familiarizing yourself with the equipment and the climbing environment. Spend the rest of the day acclimatizing and preparing mentally and physically for the ascent. Overnight at Ama Dablam Base Camp.

Day 12 : Climb Camp I (5,700 meters / 18,700 feet)

Today climb to Camp I and overnight at Camp I.

Day 13 : Climb to Camp II (6,000 m) and come back to Camp I

Today from Camp I, you will proceed to Camp II using fixed ropes established by your guide. These ropes assist in both ascent and descent. The climb to Camp II is challenging, and you will use ascender for safety and efficiency. Spend some moments in Camp II then back to Camp I. Overnight at Camp I.

Day 14 : Trek from Camp I to Base Camp

After breakfast descend back to Base Camp for well acclimatize and rest. Overnight at Base Camp.

Day 15 : Rest Day

The day is dedicated to relax and rest. Enjoy spectacular surrounding Himalayan peaks with Ama Dablam.

Day 16 : Rest Day

Today also a day to relaxation, hydration, gear checks, and final expedition preparation. Our climbing team will re-check equipment, review the climbing plan, talk about weather conditions and provide necessary guidance.

Day 17 : Climb to Camp II (6,000 m)

Today climbers climb to Camp II. You climb Camp I and spend few moments there and continue to Camp II. Overnight at Camp II.

Day 18 : Climb to Ama Dablam Summit (6,812 m) and back to Camp I

Today is the summit day. The day begins early in the morning. The climb from Camp II to Camp III involves mixed terrain of rock, snow, and ice. Proper use of ice axes and crampons is essential for reaching Camp III. From Camp III, you will make a final push to the summit. The ascent to the summit of Ama Dablam is less technical but still demanding.

After reaching the summit of Ama Dablam (8,612 m), the summit offers magnificent views of the Everest massif and surrounding peaks. Spend few moments there for celebration and Photograph, then descend back to Camp I, following the same route. The descent is crucial and requires careful navigation to ensure safety. Each climb and descent phase is carefully planned, with rest periods to ensure your physical and mental readiness for the challenges ahead.

Day 19 : Trek to Base Camp (4,600 m / 15,092 ft)

After late breakfast descend slowly to Base Camp. Overnight at Base Camp.

Day 20 : Contingency Day

Contingency day. Rest and recovery day.

Day 21 : Trek to Pangboche (3,980 m / 13,058 ft)

Today short walk descent to Pangboche. Overnight at Pangboche.

Day 22 : Trek to Namche (3,440 m / 11,286 ft)

Today you trek down to Namche via Tengboche, retracing the same route. upon arrival at Namche you can explore Namche again in the evening. Overnight at Namche.

Day 23 : Trek to Lukla (2,840 m / 9,318 ft)

Today, you will trek back to Lukla. The descent takes you through Phakding. The trek back is less strenuous, allowing you to enjoy the landscapes and reflect on your climbing achievements. This period also provides opportunities to interact with local Sherpas and fellow trekkers. Upon reaching Lukla, you’ll spend the night at a lodge, celebrating the completion of your climb. Overnight at a lodge in Lukla.

Day 24 : Fly to Manthali and drive to Kathmandu

Take a morning flight from Lukla back to Kathmandu. The flight offers a final opportunity to appreciate the Himalayan views. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel. Spend the rest of the day relaxing or exploring the city. You may wish to shop for souvenirs or simply unwind after your adventure. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 25 : Free Day

Today is free day in Kathmandu. You can spend day with shopping, exploring Kathmandu city or simple relaxing.

Day 26 : Final Day

On your final day, you can spend the morning at your leisure, packing and preparing for your departure. Depending on your flight schedule, you will be transferred to Tribhuvan International Airport approximately three hours before your flight. Our representative will assist you with check-in and bid you farewell. Safe travels and best wishes for your journey home.
